The 3 Keys to decorate an Irish Pub

Project: The pint of the Kingdom. Melia Hotels.

Have you ever wondered which distinguish an English pub of an Irish one? Not only they come from different places but also, the decorative elements and the distribution of the space is different one each other.

British pubs tend to be more luminous and its interior design invites the conversation and debate. In contrast, the Irish people tend to be more closed and gloomy, with tables and chairs isolated, even spread over different chairs. It is usual that are lined with wood evoking, the nature and authenticity of the land where inhabit the Leprechauns.

Equally share characteristics, since in both the atmosphere is festive, a predominantly family spirit and the pints are all around.

This type of establishment appeared approximately in 1750 when the English Government restricted the consumption of alcohol of its citizens. At that time, the "public houses" were the only places authorized for the sale of beverages with high-ranking. These taverns were the place for workers and humble class travellers as a meeting point to disconnect from their hard working days.

Because of this, the establishments tried to generate an atmosphere similar the Victorian houses; romantic, excessive, elegant and modern. The style marked by the likes of Queen Victoria and, at the same time, a reflection of popular culture.

What are the keys to decorate a succesful English-Irish pub ?
Project: The kingdom. Cannes. France

Key #1: Walls and Ceilings

The ceilings are carved in wood or plaster wallpaper and painted with floral forms in dark colors. A perfect example of this is the Kingdom, a purely English pub that Decoretro developed from design to installation. You can see how dark colors and wood dress the whole space.

In this project there is another characteristic element of the Victorian era: the stained glass windows in the ceiling. In the most selected pubs, soils are from baked ceramic with plant motifs although wood was the material normally used.

Key #2: Lighting

Project: Grifols. Barcelone Spain

The lighting is an important element of the decoration whose purpose is to seek the warmth of home. Thus, it is common to find important crystal chandeliers, hanging lamps with glass tulips and globes of glass pendants. The decoration of the irish pub that Melia Hotels has in its hotel in Salou (Costa Daurada) combines all the elements of an authentic Irish pub: chromatic green and black and evocations to music, sports and beer.

Key #3: The Elements

Proyect: Shamrock. Tarbes. France

The decorative elements are those that provide thematic authenticity to the decoration. Corners filled with photos, barrels, customer lamps ... and even vintage decor elements: for example, a tandem pendant along with heralds of the Celtic tradition. Musical instruments and sports, are key elements to give you that touch so Irish.

It should also be noted the importance of the bar; always with a great row of beer taps and distinguished from the rest of the local with more intense lighting. The chimney should be the focal point of the lounge with central designs and normally open cover of shields, pictures or flags.

In short, the combination of all these elements generates an environment that invites you to sit in a good chester and enjoy an authentic Guinness.
